University of Baguio in its 61 yrs. of continuing quest for academic excellence
Baguio City – The University of Baguio will be celebrating its 61th foundation day on August 8 in a continuing quest for academic excellence.
Dr Fernando “Tatay” Bautista, established UB, then known as Baguio Technical and Commercial Institute or simply Baguio Tech on August 8, 1948, and early on, gained government recognition.
In a kapihan forum Wednesday, UB launched it schedule of activities and reported its accomplishments on academic excellence, balanced development and Fun and Hands-on Learning.
In its continuing quest for academic excellence, UB is the only non-sectarian ” Autonomous University ” in the region. CHED granted its autonomy status last March 11, with an effectivity period of five years.
In terms of accreditation, UB is also recognized as the top-five institution, with the highest number of programs of 10 accredited nationwide, by the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities-Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA), under the Federation of Accrediting Agencies in the Philippines (FAAP).
As for Academic Excellence, UB is recognized nationally and internationally for: its Criminology Program – CHED Center of Excellence – October 2008 to 2011; CHED Best HEI Research program in 2006; Family Welfare Excellence Award; International Practicum Training Recognition; Model Local Academy (SY 2007-2008); and as a Center of Training Institution for the DepED Certificate and INSET programs.
For Board performances, UB is number 1 nationwide, in the Category C, June 2009 and December 2008 Licensure Examination for Dentists, with 100 percent passing rate. UB is also rated No. 1 in the August 2008 Licensure Examination for Criminologists (Category A) and October 2007 – Criminologists (Category B).
UB also attained a 100 percent passing rate in the July 2008 Licensure Examination for Optometrist and of fresh graduates passing rate in the Bachelor in Elementary Education licensure examination last March. UB also achieved a 91 percent fresh graduate passing rate in the March 2009 and Sept 2008 Licensure examination for Medical Technology.
Lined up activities for their 61st anniversary are: “Colleges on Parade” exhibit, from Aug.3-5 at the ground floor of their centennial bldg; Freshmen Day on Aug. 5; Search for Ms UB on Aug 7 (with pre-pageant on Aug 3), Ringing of Victory Bell on the morning of Aug 7, followed by Eucharistic Services; and FAMERS (gathering) at the CAP John Hay (9:30am – 2:00pm), plus a concert at the AU-GYM in the afternoon of Aug. 8.
